Just today I received an email wondering if it is possible to create custom labels in FundRaiser. The organization is member-based and they wanted to be able to make their own name tags with particular information from the database displayed.

Here was my response, and it may be helpful for you, too:

Yes, you can do that !

There is a special "Type" of word processing document that you can create which is a custom label layout. You can use any of the normal merge fields in its creation, and you only need to create it once. So, you would go into the word processor, start a NEW template, enter a code and set the Type to LABEL TEMPLATE. It will probably ask if you want to set the margins to zero, which you do.

Then, just set in the fields as you want them. If you want the regular mailing address with additional information before or after it, then use the Address Block function. If you want to create a name tag, use whatever fields you want, place them where you want, and save the template with a name that you will recognize.

Then, in Mass Mailings (or memberships, or where ever labels are printed for what you're doing), when you get to the Label Templates page, you'll go to the Custom tab, and click on Create Custom (after you first choose the label size, of course). Give it a name that you'll recognize in the future as being used for whatever your purpose (like "Name Tags"). Then look at the bottom of the Custom page and you'll see "What to Print" section that has a choice of Word Processor Label Template. choose that, and then select the label template from the dropdown, and Save. Go back to the Main Tab of the Label Templates, and you'll now see that it is set to print a --CUSTOM-- label, with the name you gave it.
