Creative Codes

FundRaiser Software has the ability to track the non-giving aspects of your donors as well as donation information. A great way to do this is to use the category codes features. Each version (Spark, Select, and Professional) of FundRaiser offers unlimited category codes. With an ability to create codes up to eight characters in length, your organization has a nearly unlimited (there’s a limit, but it’s in the billions) to create as many codes as you require.

So in what ways can your organization use codes?

Track your donor’s interests so you can craft events that will appeal to a large variety of your donors. Make note of family situations, such as parents, grandparents, children, so you can create inclusive events or tailor your giving letters. Animal welfare organizations may want to track pet ownership. If you don’t have the Campaign and Events module, code when you send out appeal letters or if a donor attended an event. Many organizations use codes to track when someone uses their services or volunteers. Track industries, businesses, resources…anything that your organization might need.

Last week’s blog talked about groupings (Great Groupings) and in the Select and Professional editions of FundRaiser you can add a category code to everyone in the grouping. This makes it especially easy to ensure you’re adequately keeping track of the non-giving aspects of your donors’ lives.

Category codes allow you to segment your donor list in meaningful ways. I would encourage you to take a look at how you can utilize them within your organization. And, of course, if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to our technical support team.
