“In this time of high job stress and increasing demands on employees, this exemplary workplace has made it a priority to create an environment that is sensitive to the health and well-being of its workers,” says Mark Skrade, President of the Missouri Psychological Association. “By rewarding this organization for its efforts, we hope others will take notice and implement similar programs in their workplaces.”
The Psychologically Healthy Workplace Award was created to recognize organizations that understand the link between employee health and well-being and organizational performance and have implemented a variety of workplace practices in an active effort to create a positive work environment.
"I can feel good about going to work. I don’t wake up and worry about coming to work. I feel safe to talk about issues, what is going on, because people who are supported are better able to listen. It is something to be proud of." Autumn, Sales
Each applicant is judged on criteria including: employee involvement; health and safety; employee growth and development; work-life balance; and employee recognition.
Our customers say that they experience our sales staff differently. One example happened recently. A customer told us they had chosen FundRaiser because they talked to 3 different people on our staff and felt that the atmosphere was wonderful. These customers look for that in the companies they do business with. They said the others they talked to were ‘too business-like’. Is that a compliment? It is to us. They said, “It must be a fun place to be, and be a family." James, Sales
FundRaiser Software will be recognized for the quality of communication and employee involvement in decision making at the company. In addition, FundRaiser actively supports work-life balance providing options for flex-time and an on-site childcare resource when school is not in session.
"One important aspect of this for me is being able to leave and take care of my kids if the nurse calls from school. Also, I’ve been able to go to funerals of the people that I care about. It’s awesome to be able to go pay my respects, and I haven’t had the freedom to do that at other jobs." Jennifer, Tech Support
The company supports employee growth and development through opportunities for training and promotion. In addition, employees and management are respectful of one another and seem to genuinely care for and support each other in and outside of the workplace.
"It shows that the company cares as much about employees as about the bottom line. It affects your performance. It affects everything. I have always believed that if you’re not happy, you have to make a change. Right from the start, when I interviewed for the job, I heard staff say that the employers cared about us and our family life. That was the deciding factor in taking this job, that it was a ‘good place.’" Scott, Programmer
According to a 2004 poll by the American Psychological Association, two-thirds of both men and women say work has a significant impact on their stress level, and one in four has missed work because of stress. "Our customers benefit too. When you call FundRaiser, you are talking to someone less stressed. Of course we have stress here, too, but on a regular basis, you will find people happier and more content. They are going to be more interested and involved in our customers concerns." Gene, Founder
