In Kim Klein's recent blog, she mentions some very specific steps in winning over Inkind donors to become Monetary donors. FundRaiser can help with these steps, and here's how:
1. "Thank the donor for whatever they gave you". You thank you letter can include the Gift Merge Notes field, which is where you should put a description of the goods or services donated.
2. "...a few months later ask them for a financial contribution". You can create a grouping of all those inkind donors from "a few months" ago, and send them all the same appeal letter. You can even mention their most recet gift, by date, or description, or other information you've stored.
3. "ask them at the end of the calendar year again for any kind of donation". Of course, if they've responded to the previous request, you'll already have thanked them for that monetary gift, so whether you ask them for more monetary or more inkind will be up to you.
4. "If they don't respond... take them off your list". Don't remove them from your database, however, but simply mark them as not to be solicited for monetary gifts. Chances are they may still give inkind, and you won't be giving them a bad feeling by "pushing" them for monetary gifts.
Most of these steps revolve aroound creating good Groupings, based on gift information, so be sure to check out the Groupings training video in the Customer Portal section of our website.
